Real Estate Meets Psychology
Editor’s Note
At The York & Co., we believe real estate is about more than the property; it’s all about the people. We’re proud to share this guest post from one of our own, Michele Jordon, a licensed Realtor and practicing mental health counselor. Her work sits at the intersection of empathy, psychology, and home.
Hello,
My name is Michele Jordon. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Counseling, and I currently serve as a mental health school counselor at a downtown high school. In this role, I support students, staff, and families through emotional care, mental health advocacy, and a whole-person approach to well-being. Alongside my counseling work, I am also a licensed real estate professional in Missouri, with plans to expand my licensure in Kansas.
People often ask what led me into real estate. The answer is deeply personal…
In August of 2023, my father passed away unexpectedly. Mine and my mother’s world shifted in an instant! As we navigated our grief, we were also faced with a series of unfamiliar and overwhelming business decisions, including the sale of my father’s place of business and the family home. One that was filled with memories my mother could no longer bear to live in.
Just seven days after my father’s passing, my mother suffered a broken femur. While there is more to this story, what matters most is this: once she began to heal, we found ourselves standing at a crossroads. We were emotionally exhausted and facing the daunting process of selling one home while searching for another.
It was during this time that I realized how rare it is to find a real estate professional who truly understands the emotional weight behind these decisions. Buying or selling a home is never just a transaction. It’s often tied to loss, transition, hope, and vulnerability. In that moment, I felt a clear calling to bring my background in psychology and counseling into the real estate world.
“Buying or selling a home is never just a transaction - it’s a deeply human experience.”
I practice real estate by leading with empathy, intention, and genuine care. My goal is to center my clients’ needs, emotions, and visions, not my own, and to make what can be an overwhelming process feel more supportive and less emotionally draining.
When I began searching for a real estate group that shared these values, I found The York & Co. Here, I work alongside a team that prioritizes people over profit, leads with compassion, and makes decisions guided by purpose, long-term vision, and forward-thinking leadership. It is a place where empathy and excellence coexist.
This is where real estate meets psychology.
Successful real estate is not driven solely by commissions; it is driven by human connection. Psychology plays a critical role in every transaction, from understanding emotional attachment and cognitive bias to recognizing how stress, timing, and life transitions influence decision-making. Real estate choices are rarely purely logical; they are deeply emotional.
At the heart of every successful transaction is trust. While every deal matters, the relationships built along the way are what create meaningful, lasting outcomes. When clients feel seen, heard, and respected, confidence follows.
As a Realtor, my mission is to foster authentic relationships rooted in trust and understanding. Through compassion, thoughtful guidance, and emotional awareness, I aim to create an experience where clients feel supported, empowered, and confident in their decisions. By recognizing and responding to my clients’ emotional needs, I strive to build partnerships that extend well beyond the transaction.
If you’re navigating a life transition and seeking a real estate professional who leads with care, Michele would be honored to walk alongside you.
Warm wishes,
Real Estate with Real Care
